Death
becomes clearer through bloodshot eyes
As a death from old age becomes nearer
Why can't the livestock be free
When trading soldiers for steak Learn to
evolve with the new transition
To act upon a hypocritical vision
Discard the old and in with the new
Discard the old and in with the fashion
Learn
to evolve with the new transition
To act upon a hypocritical vision
Learn to evolve, learn to, learn to evolve
Who
is the bad guy for iron
Require mince these are the facts
So eat what you murder
This is animal liberation
Eight billion killed for human pleasure
Bring
on the ape farm
Demolish the monkeys
Drink up, drink up
Look down on junkies
A
new hypocritical look and ambition
The time has come
To make the decision you...
Drink up, drink up, look down
I'll hold it back, I'll hold it back
Discard
the old, in with the fashion
Death
becomes clearer through bloodshot eyes
Death becomes clearer through bloodshot eyes

"Everyone
that knows me knows how serious I am about it,"
said silverchair's Daniel Johns of his commitment to a
vegan
lifestyle. "I don't want to have a part in the
exploitation of animals."
The depth of Johns'
feelings on the subject is apparent in the lyrics
for Spawn Again from
silverchair's Neon Ballroom.
"That whole song
is about anti animal experimentation," he said.
"It is probably the heaviest song we
have ever really done in terms
of music."
The music was written
by Johns and drummer Ben Gillies, and the
song was originally recorded for the
soundtrack of the motion picture
Spawn. By the time the band
toured Australia late in 1997, the song
had become a crowd favourite.
"We originally
did that song, a demo version, and then it got remixed
[for the soundtrack]. We decided to do
another vesion of it again
because we really liked it but it had never
been on an album. Because
we thought the song was so good, it was kind
of wasted just to be on
soundtracks."
The pre-remixed
version of the original Spawn went
public in a very
exclusive manner when fans who participated
in the shooting of the
video for Neon Ballroom's
first single, Anthem For The Year 2000,
were given a special two-track CD with Spawn
and silverchair's
cover of the Clash's London's
Burning.
Neon Ballroom
contains further evidence of Johns' dedication to animal
rights. The colour booklet which comes with
the CD contains addresses
and contact information for a number of
charitable organisations including
Animal Liberation NSW, the Humane
Farming Association.
The British Union for
the Abolition of Vivisection, and Compassion
Australia.
